Design, Weight and Dimensions
Both have the same identical design but the new version is a bit thicker than its predecessor. iPad 3 is 0.03 inch thicker but the difference is so minimal that you wouldn’t notice it easily. It’s also slightly heavier than 2nd gen tablet.
Display, Processor and Graphics
Many people would agree that iPad 3 2048×1536 pixel crisp Retina Display is the main selling point of the device. iPad 2 offers Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+3G Models on AT&T and Verizon but the new iPad 3 offers Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+4G LTE Models on AT&T and Verizon. Data speed on 3G HSPA has also improved from 7.2Mbps to 21Mbps. The 3rd-gen tablet comes with Bluetooth 4.0 technology instead of Bluetooth 2.1.
iPad 2 is now $100 cheaper. You can get 16GB Wi-Fi version for $399 and Wi-Fi+3G version for $529. The new iPad 3 is available for the same price as its predecessor. Wi-Fi Model: $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB, $699 for 64GB and 4G LTE Model: $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB, and $829 for 64GB.
Both have Same 10 Hours Battery life on Wi-Fi. iPad 3 has 9 hours battery life on 4G and iPad 2 has 9 hours battery life on 3G.
Apple’s 3rd-gen tablet has improved 5MP iSight Camera with HD Video Recording of 1080p. It has features like video stabilization and temporal noise reduction. Both have VGA Camera on the front side. iPad 2 offered 720p video recording.
